A roof collapse at a private school in Dir Colony, Peshawar, has killed several children and a female teacher, and police have registered a case against the school's owners, shareholders and construction contractor. The Peshawar school collapse has left dozens of people injured, and the death toll reported across sources has not settled on a single figure.
What happened
The roof of the private school caved in, and Rescue 1122 workers were still working through the rubble when the first reports came out. Early posts put the death toll at 16, including students and teachers, and described that figure as provisional. Later figures were higher. A photo caption from the scene referred to 33 children and a female teacher killed, while the first information report, or FIR, records 30 children and a female teacher dead and 52 people injured.
A later social media update gave 35 dead and 45 injured, but the sources reviewed do not show that an official count has confirmed it. The FIR was lodged at the Agha Mir Jani Shah police station, with police acting as complainant on behalf of the state.
Negligence alleged in the FIR
The case was registered under Section 322 of the Pakistan Penal Code, the country's main criminal law, which deals with qatl-bis-sabab, meaning death caused without an intention to kill. The FIR alleges that substandard construction materials were used in the building. It says the building was dilapidated and unsuitable for use as a school, and that complaints about deteriorating walls and roofs had been made earlier without action.
Police said efforts were under way to arrest the suspects named in the FIR. These are allegations recorded in a police case and have not yet been tested in court, and none of the sources reviewed confirms an arrest.
Rescue work and what is still unclear
Rescue work was continuing at the site in the first reports, and photographs from the scene show rescue staff collecting school bags and belongings from the rubble. Several injured children were also reported. The sources do not name the school, and they do not say whether the toll will rise further.
The incident was a building collapse, not an attack. A dated photo caption places the scene on October 15, 2026, but the sources do not give a time of day. For the Peshawar school collapse, the figures in circulation differ, so readers should wait for official updates from police or the rescue service before relying on any single number.
