Power Division pushes one-stop help at DISCOs

A senior figure in the Ministry of Energy’s Power Division has urged every electricity distributor to open customer facilitation centres so households can settle power problems in one place. Khalid Khan, Joint Secretary for CA&D, made the appeal after inspecting the regional help facility at Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) headquarters.

IESCO Chairman Dr Tahir Masood and Chief Executive Engr Chaudhry Khalid Mahmood, with other senior managers, welcomed him. The visit focused on how a dedicated service floor can cut the hassle consumers face when dealing with bills, faults and new links.

What IESCO’s help desks already cover

Dr Masood told the visitor that the utility is trying to lift service quality in step with the Prime Minister’s vision and guidance from the Energy Minister. He said the company wants faster, clearer responses through its customer facilitation centres.

Those desks act as a single counter for several routine needs: asking for bill payment in instalments, fixing wrong bills, seeking more time to pay, reporting load-shedding or faults, and filing for a fresh electricity connection. The model is meant to spare people from moving between different offices for the same complaint.

Call to copy the model nationwide

Khan welcomed the approach and credited IESCO’s directors and managers for putting consumers first. He argued that the same kind of hub should appear in other power distribution companies (DISCOs)—the firms that deliver electricity to homes and businesses in their regions—so people elsewhere can fix power issues without long, confusing trips.

No timetable, budget or list of utilities next in line was announced during the visit. The message, however, was clear: Islamabad’s working example should become standard practice across the DISCO network.

Aasan alfaaz mein

Power Division ke joint secretary ne kaha ke har bijli company mein customer help centre hone chahiye. Unhon ne IESCO ke Islamabad wale centre ka daura kiya jahan bill, complaint aur nayi connection ka kaam ek jagah hota hai. Unka kehna hai ke baqi DISCOs bhi yeh nizam banayein. Is se aam logon ko daftar-daftar ghoomne ki zarurat kam ho sakti hai.
