The United Kingdom has published an updated list of 82 international universities whose graduates may apply for the High Potential Individual (HPI) visa, a route that lets eligible foreign graduates live and work in Britain without first securing a job offer. UK Visas and Immigration released the list. No university from Pakistan is included.
The institutions sit across 15 countries and regions. The United States accounts for 34 places on the list—the largest share—followed by China with eight and Australia with six. Hong Kong has five universities; France and Germany have four each. The remaining names are in Canada, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, South Korea, Singapore, Japan, Belgium, and the Netherlands.
Who is covered and for how long
Among the named institutions are Harvard University, Stanford University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the University of Melbourne, the Australian National University, the University of Toronto, and the National University of Singapore.
This version of the list applies to qualifications awarded between 1 November 2026 and 31 October 2027. Anyone who graduated in earlier years must use the university list that matched the date their award was conferred, UK Visas and Immigration guidance indicates.
Under the UK HPI visa, people who gained a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree from an eligible university within the five years immediately before they apply may seek permission without a job offer. Successful applicants can normally stay for two years; those with a PhD or another doctoral qualification can stay for three.
What holders can and cannot do
Visa holders may work in most jobs, look for work, become self-employed, and bring eligible family members. They must still meet English language rules, show they have enough money to support themselves, and have their qualifications checked through Ecctis, the body that verifies overseas academic awards for UK immigration purposes.
The HPI visa cannot be extended and does not by itself lead to permanent residency. Before permission runs out, holders may be able to move onto another immigration route, including the Skilled Worker visa. The full university list is published on the UK government’s official website.
What this means for Pakistani applicants
Because no Pakistani campus is on the roster, a degree earned only in Pakistan does not by itself open this particular UK HPI visa path for the 2026–27 award window. Graduates who studied at one of the listed universities abroad, and who meet the five-year timing and other rules, remain the group this route is written for.
Aasan alfaaz mein
Britain ne High Potential Individual visa ke liye 82 universities ki nayi list jari ki hai. Is list mein Pakistan ki koi university shamil nahi hai. Jo log eligible universities se degree le chuke hon, woh job offer ke baghair UK mein reh aur kaam kar sakte hain. Sirf Pakistani degree walon ke liye yeh khaas route is list se open nahi hota.
