Pakistan has successfully flight-tested Fa'az, its first indigenously developed air-to-air missile, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military’s media wing, said on Tuesday. The Pakistan air-to-air missile test was presented as a milestone for the country’s aerospace and defence work. Officials linked the announcement to Rawalpindi on 3 November.

What Fa'az is designed to do

According to the ISPR, Fa'az carries a state-of-the-art terminal guidance system—the kit that steers a missile in the last stage of flight toward its target. The statement said the weapon can engage enemy aerial targets at longer, or extended, ranges. That reach, officials said, should give the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) more room to decide how and when it fights in the air.

The ISPR framed the successful flight as proof of technical maturity, innovation and self-reliance in Pakistan’s defence industry. It said the indigenous air-to-air missile should strengthen the country’s overall defence posture and expand the PAF’s operational flexibility. No figure in kilometres was published for how far Fa'az can fly.

Who watched the launch

Senior officers of the Pakistan Armed Forces were present for the test, together with scientists and engineers who helped build the system. The military’s account cast those teams as central to the project’s progress from design to flight.

Leadership response and what comes next

President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, and the services chiefs congratulated the scientists and engineers. The ISPR said the development is expected to firm up Pakistan’s defence posture and the PAF’s operational capabilities. The statement did not set out an induction date, production plan or combat deployment schedule.

Aasan alfaaz mein

Pakistan ne apna pehla desi Fa'az air-to-air missile kamyabi se flight test kiya hai. ISPR ke mutabiq yeh missile door ke hawai targets ko engage kar sakta hai. Is se Pakistan Air Force ko zyada operational flexibility milne ki umeed hai. Sadr, wazir-e-azam aur fauji leadership ne scientists aur engineers ko mubarakbadi di hai.
