Police in Rawalpindi are investigating the Rabia Ahsan death after the 92 News host was found shot dead at her home in Gulshan Abad, near Adiala Road, on Sunday, November 8. Police said a firearm was recovered from the house and took her husband, Ahsan, into custody for questioning. The cause of death is a gunshot wound, but investigators are still working out how the shooting happened.
What police have said
City Police Officer Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera confirmed the incident. Police found Rabia’s body inside the family home, in a bedroom, after receiving information about the shooting. Her body was then shifted to a hospital for a post-mortem examination, a medical examination that helps establish how a person died, along with other legal formalities.
Forensic teams have been collecting evidence from the house, and police said legal proceedings are under way. Rabia was associated with 92 News and lived in the Gulshan Abad area with her family. Authorities have not announced a confirmed motive, and they have not determined whether the shooting was accidental or deliberate.
The husband’s account and open questions
Ahsan told investigators that the shooting was accidental. In his initial statement, he said the shot “went off accidentally” and that he had not fired it intentionally. He also told police that Rabia’s mother and sister were living in the same house, and he suggested that investigators question them.
Police are recording statements and examining the available evidence to determine the circumstances of her death. His account is being assessed alongside that evidence, and the investigation is ongoing. Until the inquiry is complete, the question of whether the shooting was accidental or deliberate remains open.
