Republican Party news today and the DeSantis warning

In Republican Party, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis used a Monday night interview to challenge his own side over fuel costs, putting Ron DeSantis gas prices comments at the centre of the midterm debate. Speaking on Straight Shooter with Stephen A. on SiriusXM, he said petrol is more expensive because of the war with Iran and that Republicans who will not say so are losing voters’ trust.

“Gas is higher. It hurts people, working class people, and it’s higher because of the Iran conflict,” DeSantis said. “If you can’t admit that to voters, then you’re gaslighting them, and they’re not going to listen to you on other things.” Gaslighting, in plain terms, means trying to persuade people that what they can see for themselves is not real.

How high prices have moved

AAA figures show how far US pump prices have climbed. The national average for a gallon of regular started 2026 under $3, stayed above $4 from late July, and was about $4.23 as of Oct. 29. AAA has linked the rise to expensive crude oil and instability in the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow waterway near Iran through which a large share of the world’s oil moves. A separate Election Day reading put the average near $4.11 a gallon, a slightly lower snapshot than the late-October AAA figure.

DeSantis has stressed Ron DeSantis gas prices sensitivity for months. Earlier in 2026 in Tampa, he told reporters that fuel costs are what people are “more sensitive about than anything else.” He said his warning also applied to President Donald Trump, who in April answered a question about how long Americans would face high prices by saying, “Well, they’re not very high.”

Why he says the Iran war hurts the GOP

DeSantis argued the conflict has become “a big, big drag” because some Republican voters wanted no more Middle East wars and have “checked out” after seeing the country drawn in again. Trump’s 2024 campaign had promised to keep the United States out of new overseas wars and to bring prices down. If the war continues through the rest of the presidency, DeSantis said, it would be “devastating” for getting other work done and “very, very difficult for Republicans in the next cycle.” He also told Smith he believes Democrats could make “potentially big gains” this cycle.

He is not alone in that worry. House Republican Conference Chair Lisa McClain of Michigan said last month, “I don’t think gaslighting works.” Gas prices have been described as the top issue raised at Republican campaign stops, including among loyal donors and supporters. In Texas, Senate candidate Ken Paxton was recorded blaming race troubles on “the war, the gas prices, diesel.” Asked what else the party should rethink, DeSantis said messaging on artificial intelligence, data centres and Big Tech needs to improve. Florida limits governors to two terms, so he is not seeking office again in this vote.

Timeline: what has happened so far

  • 2024: Trump campaigned on avoiding new overseas wars and lowering prices for Americans.
  • April (year of the interview cycle): Trump said US gas prices were “not very high.”
  • Early 2026: US regular gasoline averaged under $3 to start the year; DeSantis in Tampa called pump prices the issue people feel most.
  • Late July 2026 onward: The national average stayed above $4 a gallon, per AAA.
  • Oct. 29, 2026: AAA put the national average near $4.23 a gallon, citing crude costs and Strait of Hormuz risk.
  • Monday before Election Day: DeSantis told Stephen A. Smith Republicans must admit the Iran war is driving higher gas prices; voters then headed to the polls with the House and Senate at stake.

Aasan alfaaz mein

America ke Florida ke governor Ron DeSantis ne kaha hai ke petrol mehnga is liye hai ke Iran se jung chal rahi hai. Unhon ne apni party se kaha ke logon ko jhut na bolo ke rates theek hain. Yeh baat election se pehle kahi gayi, jab log vote dalne ja rahe the. Pakistan mein bhi log yeh dekh rahe hain ke Middle East ki tension petrol ke bhao ko kaise chhoo sakti hai.
