Japan has placed Farukh Akhter Amil, once Pakistan’s envoy in Tokyo, on its 2026 autumn decorations list. The Embassy of Japan in Islamabad said he will receive the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star for helping deepen official and public links between the two countries.
What the honour recognises
Amil held the ambassadorship from 2013 to 2017. In that period he pushed culture programmes and everyday contact between Pakistanis and Japanese communities, according to the embassy statement released in Islamabad.
In August 2015 he asked Princess Takamado to attend a calligraphy show staged at Pakistan’s mission in Japan—an encounter the embassy presents as a visible cultural bridge with the Imperial Household. He also spoke on more than 50 Japanese campuses and met students and scholars face to face, aiming to build familiarity among younger audiences in both societies.
Solidarity after the 2011 disaster
Soon after reaching Japan he travelled to Fukushima Prefecture, which had been hit hard by the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake. The embassy notes he made that trip before formally presenting his credentials. Residents later called the gesture “unforgettable support,” the statement said.
The same release stresses that his public work for mutual understanding did not end when he left Tokyo. In February 2025 he joined Japan’s mission in Pakistan to stage a photo display titled “Beautiful Japan through the Eyes of an Ambassador,” using images he shot while posted there. Fourteen leading newspapers in Pakistan covered the show.

Aasan alfaaz mein
Japan ne pehle Pakistani ambassador Farukh Amil ko Order of the Rising Sun ka bara honour diya hai. Yeh un ke kaam ki qadr hai jis se dono mulkon ke rishtay mazboot hue. Unhon ne Japan mein culture, students aur Fukushima ke logon ke saath waqt guzara. Aam Pakistani ke liye yeh is baat ki nishani hai ke soft diplomacy aur dosti ko Tokyo bhi weight deta hai.
