Two Palestinians, including a medical student, died on Friday in Gaza from wounds sustained in earlier Israeli attacks on Gaza City, according to medical sources and witnesses. The deaths came as the Israeli army was reported to be firing in another part of the territory on the same day.
A medical source at Al-Shifa Hospital in western Gaza City said a Palestinian man died from wounds he had received several days earlier in an Israeli attack in the al-Blakhiyah area of the Al-Shati refugee camp. The second death was that of Sara Abu Jiyab, a resident of Al-Shati camp, who had been wounded in an earlier Israeli strike on Gaza City. Witnesses said she was a medical student at the Islamic University of Gaza and had been hurt in an Israeli airstrike on the university campus in late October.
Fire near Rafah
Separately, witnesses said the Israeli army opened heavy fire on Friday toward the Al-Mawasi area, northwest of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip. Some bullets reached tents sheltering displaced Palestinians, they said. The incident took place amid continued violations of a ceasefire agreement that has been in effect in Gaza since October 10, 2025.
The toll under the ceasefire
Gaza's Health Ministry says the violations of the ceasefire have killed 1,602 Palestinians and wounded 5,799 others. The broader war, which began in October 2023, has killed more than 74,000 Palestinians and wounded over 175,000, and has caused widespread destruction of civilian infrastructure.
