Petroleum dealers have demanded a forensic audit of oil refineries’ profits, arguing that a transparent review could open the way for petrol price relief of about Rs50 per litre for consumers.

The call came at an emergency meeting of dealers in Karachi, where participants discussed refinery earnings, how petroleum is priced, and what relief might be possible if profits were examined in detail.

What dealers are asking for

Dealers including Malik Khuda Bakhsh and Anwar Kamal urged a transparent forensic audit of the financial affairs of all refineries. The aim, they said, would be to establish what profits the companies have actually earned.

Malik Khuda Bakhsh claimed refineries had booked profits equal to a full year’s earnings in only three months. He said a forensic audit would bring those figures into the open.

Anwar Kamal said that if the matter were properly examined, consumers could receive relief of Rs40 to Rs50 per litre on petrol.

Why dealers say the audit matters

The dealers said a statement by the petroleum minister had confirmed concerns they already held. They alleged that refineries had made excessive profits and insisted consumers should receive what they called their rightful relief.

They also pressed for a comprehensive audit of refineries’ financial records covering past earnings. That step, they argued, would help stop further financial pressure on consumers later.

Representation in petroleum decisions

Beyond the audit, the dealers demanded representation on decision-making committees in the petroleum sector. They said key stakeholders should not be left out of policymaking that shapes fuel costs and market rules.

No official response to the meeting’s demands was set out in the available accounts, and no change in petrol pump prices has been announced as a result of the dealers’ call. The demand for Rs50 per litre petrol price relief remains a claim by dealers pending any government or regulatory action.

Aasan alfaaz mein

Petroleum dealers ne kaha hai ke refineries ke munafa ka forensic audit hona chahiye. Unka kehna hai ke is se petrol Rs40 se Rs50 rupay litre sasta ho sakta hai. Yeh abhi demand hai, price abhi kam nahi hui. Aam logo ke liye matlab yeh hai ke agar yeh raahat milti hai to fuel ka kharcha kam ho sakta hai.
