Barkat Frisian Agro Limited (PSX: BFAGRO) posted a 15.43 percent fall in net profit to Rs627.24 million in 2026, even as net sales rose 6.05 percent to Rs7,685.66 million. Earnings per share (EPS, profit attributable to each share) slipped to Rs2.02 and the net profit margin eased to 8.16 percent. The company processes poultry eggs for local buyers and for Middle Eastern export markets.

Sales grow as Faisalabad lifts capacity

Higher local sales drove most of the 2026 topline gain. Export shipments to Saudi Arabia improved, but demand from the UAE, Oman and Bahrain was muted amid regional tensions. During the year Barkat Frisian Agro began commercial operations at its Faisalabad facility, raising installed annual capacity from 17,000 tons to 29,000 tons. Capacity utilisation fell to 53.39 percent as the larger base came online.

Gross profit rose in line with sales and the gross profit margin held at 13.49 percent. Operating profit still declined 6.75 percent, with the operating margin down to 9.92 percent, as distribution and administrative costs climbed. The workforce expanded to 133 employees. Finance cost fell 23 percent on lower average borrowing rates, though outstanding borrowings rose and the gearing ratio (debt relative to equity) moved up to 11.83 percent.

The company operates in a Special Economic Zone (SEZ, an industrial area with tax relief) and holds a 10-year tax holiday. In 2026 it booked deferred tax expense of Rs74.46 million tied to temporary differences on fixed-asset additions at Faisalabad.

A year earlier, in 2025, Barkat Frisian Agro had recorded a stronger jump: net sales of Rs7,247 million, up 19.42 percent, and net profit of Rs741.687 million, up 95.30 percent. Utilisation then was 88.20 percent on the smaller 17,000-ton base. An Initial Public Offer (IPO, a first sale of shares to the public) and related equity steps cut gearing to 7.34 percent from 37.85 percent the year before.

First quarter shows a rebound

In the first quarter of fiscal year 2027, net sales rose 21 percent to Rs2,274.11 million on better volumes, mix and pricing. Gross profit surged 59.69 percent and the gross margin widened to 16.48 percent from 12.50 percent a year earlier, helped by improved utilisation, steadier raw-material prices and work on backward integration and energy diversification.

Distribution and administrative expenses rose sharply with higher production and sales. Finance cost jumped 178.25 percent as short- and long-term liabilities increased. Net profit still advanced 37.80 percent to Rs222.10 million, with EPS of Rs0.72 and a net margin of 9.77 percent.

As of 30 June 2026 the company had 309.990 million shares outstanding among 8,141 shareholders. Associated companies and related parties held 65.16 percent, including B&Z Enterprise (Private) Limited, Frisian Egg International B.V. and Barkat Steel (Private) Limited. The local general public held 16.02 percent and directors, the chief executive and their families about 10.94 percent.

Expansion plans and export risks

Management is pushing backward integration to secure egg supply and steady raw-material costs. It has taken a 26 percent stake in newly formed Agrolayer Protein Farm Private Limited for a second poultry farm. An egg-powder plant is planned in Karachi, and a wholly owned subsidiary, Barkat Frisian Agro Global LLC-FZ, has been set up in Dubai’s Meydan free zone to support exports.

Downside risks cited for the business include higher shipping and insurance costs from Middle East tensions, delayed export deliveries and higher fuel costs that could lift production and freight bills.
