The Pakistan Stock Exchange investor base rose to a record 681,965 in October 2026, a 56% increase from a year earlier, according to data shared by the Finance Ministry. The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX)—the country’s main share market—also logged 25,747 new investor accounts that month, the largest monthly addition on record.

Adviser to the Finance Minister Khurram Schezad said the exchange added 218,894 net new investors between January and October 2026, more than the combined additions of the previous four full calendar years from 2022 to 2025. In a post on X, he said net new investors since June 2022 totalled 406,995, a 148% expansion from a then base of 274,970.

Young savers drive the rise

The ministry said about 85% of new investors belonged to Generation Z and Millennial age groups, pointing to stronger retail interest among younger Pakistanis. It described the surge as “a remarkable shift in investor participation, reflecting growing confidence and signalling a deeper transformation of Pakistan’s capital markets.”

In a separate line, the ministry said that in the ten months from January to October 2026 the PSX added 218,894 net new investors—“more than the last four full years combined, matching nearly five years!” Schezad linked the sustained rise to confidence in economic stabilisation, improving macroeconomic fundamentals, policy direction and the long-term outlook for the capital market.

What officials say it signals

Schezad said the trend supports the government’s push to encourage investment by ordinary citizens, widen retail access, strengthen financial inclusion and deepen domestic capital markets. Growing individual participation, he added, is also expected to help channel household savings into productive investments and support longer-term economic growth.
