The PSX index crossed the 168,000 level on Tuesday as the Pakistan Stock Exchange extended its recovery. The benchmark KSE-100 closed at 168,018.87 after rising 1,454.80 points, or 0.87 per cent, with investors buying shares amid easier international oil prices and hopes of a settlement between the United States and Iran.
Topline Securities Ltd said the rally stretched through the session. The index touched an intraday high of 1,905 points as renewed buying lifted overall sentiment.
Why shares moved higher
Brokers tied the strength mainly to a drop in global crude prices. That decline came with growing optimism that Washington and Tehran might move toward deal negotiations, alongside wider diplomatic efforts. Softening oil helped ease worries about regional uncertainty and improved investors’ appetite for risk.
Ali Najib, deputy head of trading at Arif Habib Ltd, said the market built on overnight gains from the open. Fresh diplomatic contacts revived hopes of a US-Iran resolution, he said, while international oil prices kept easing. Buying spread across the board, especially in blue-chip names.
Both the US and Iranian sides are reviewing fresh mediation proposals, with Qatar engaging Tehran to try to avert a return to military escalation. Global markets are also watching possible shifts in congressional power after the ongoing US midterm election.
Heavyweights and trading activity
Fauji Fertiliser Company, Engro Holdings, Pakistan Services, Meezan Bank and Engro Fertiliser were the main supports, together adding about 701 points and underlining the role of large stocks in pushing the PSX index through 168,000.
Activity picked up from the previous session. Trading volume rose 16.66 per cent to 517.34 million shares, and turnover climbed 16.76 per cent to Rs20.7 billion. Cnergyico PK topped the volume list with 114 million shares.
What traders are watching next
Analysts expect swings to continue while US-Iran developments and broader geopolitical risks evolve. Progress in talks could support sentiment, they say, but investors remain cautious ahead of US election results.
