In an Achakzai statement delivered on the floor of the National Assembly, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, who leads the opposition, asked where the chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) is. He also said eight members of the National Assembly (MNAs) are missing. The National Assembly is the lower house of Parliament, and the remarks were made during a sitting of the House.

What Achakzai said in the Assembly

Achakzai said the government had brought an elected provincial government's term to an end, and he questioned the circumstances behind the current political situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He told the chamber that the opposition did not want to cause trouble for anyone. What it wanted, he said, was a guarantee of free and fair elections and nothing more from the government.

Lawmakers' rights and production orders

A production order is a direction that a detained person be brought before a court or the House. Achakzai argued that issuing such orders for members is the speaker's responsibility, even when a member is accused of a serious crime. He added that no member should face arrest or action over anything said during proceedings in the assembly.

He also complained that lawmakers were not being allowed to speak in the House. He warned that the government would have to answer for whatever laws it passed in that situation. Achakzai named Sanaullah Mastikhel and Kundi, who were present in the chamber, and urged that other members also be allowed to take the floor.

What is not yet known

Achakzai did not say where the chief minister or the eight members are. The Achakzai statement also did not include a government reply, and no next step was announced in his remarks. The question of the missing members therefore remains open for now.

Aasan alfaaz mein

Mahmood Khan Achakzai ne National Assembly mein sawal uthaya ke Khyber Pakhtunkhwa ke chief minister kahan hain aur aath MNAs kahan hain. Unhon ne free aur fair elections ka mutalba kiya aur kaha ke lawmakers ko assembly mein bolne ka mauka milna chahiye. Is bayan mein qeematon, bijli ke bill ya naukriyon ka zikr nahi hai, lekin yeh siyasi faislon aur elections ke liye aham hai. Aap aage ki sarkari wazahat ka intezar karein.
