Police and members of a police peace committee killed three terrorists on Wednesday in a joint Bannu operation in the Saidkhel area, officials said, a day after an improvised explosive device (IED)—a roadside bomb—struck a civilian vehicle there.

Police said the Bannu operation began after Tuesday’s blast killed a local tribal elder and wounded three other passengers. The device targeted a vehicle carrying four residents of Bezankhel. Identities of the three men killed in the raid were not immediately available.

How the Saidkhel blast unfolded

According to police, Malik Sabeel Khan was travelling with his brother, Malik Inar Khan, and with Attaur Rehman and Hayatullah when the IED hit their vehicle. Malik Inar Khan died at the scene. The three companions were injured, and the vehicle was destroyed.

Police said they also opened an investigation into Tuesday’s attack. No further official detail on the bomb’s origin or claimed responsibility was given in available accounts.

What police say about the joint raid

Following the blast, police and peace committee members mounted a joint sweep in Saidkhel. During that action, three terrorists were killed, police said. A peace committee in this context is a local volunteer group that works with police on security in the area.

Authorities did not immediately name those killed in the raid or say whether anyone was arrested. The sequence they describe links the Wednesday raid directly to the Tuesday IED strike on the Bezankhel residents’ vehicle.
