The Bajaur district administration has banned motorcycle pillion riding across the district for 10 days, from 29 October to 7 November 2026, citing security concerns.

Deputy Commissioner Adnan Farid issued the order on Thursday under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure — a legal power that lets a district official place temporary public-order restrictions. The notification bars two people from travelling on the same motorcycle anywhere in Bajaur while the ban is in force.

Why the ban was ordered

According to the notification, the step followed reports from intelligence agencies and police. Those reports pointed to security threats and the risk that motorcycles could be used in terrorist activities. The administration said the restriction is meant to address those concerns until 7 November.

The ban covers the whole of Bajaur district. Solo motorcycle travel is not described as prohibited; the rule targets two-up riding — a passenger sitting behind the rider.

What residents need to know

Anyone who usually shares a motorcycle for work, school, market trips or family errands will need another arrangement for the next several days. Violating a Section 144 order can bring legal action under criminal procedure rules, though the notification’s focus here is the travel restriction itself.

The administration has framed the measure as temporary. Unless a fresh order extends or changes the rules, the ban is set to lift after 7 November 2026.
