Security forces have foiled an infiltration attempt by militants along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in the Shalozan sector of Kurram district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, security sources said. The attempt took place on Thursday, 5 November. Infiltration here means an armed group trying to enter Pakistan without authorisation. The sources said the group belonged to Fitna al-Khawarij, the term Pakistani authorities use for militant groups, and that troops stopped it before it could enter the country.

What the sources describe

Security sources said the militants tried to cross into Pakistan through the Shalozan sector on Thursday. Pakistani troops responded swiftly and prevented the group from entering. The sources added that Afghan Taliban forces then opened fire on Pakistani troops, which they described as unprovoked, and that the Pakistani side answered the firing immediately. According to the sources, the timely response both stopped the crossing and inflicted heavy damage on Afghan Taliban posts.

Retaliatory fire and damage to posts

After the infiltration attempt was foiled, security forces launched a retaliatory operation using heavy weapons against the positions from which the firing had come. The sources said the operation caused substantial damage to Afghan Taliban border posts. Because this account rests on security sources, the extent of the damage has not been set out in an official statement. No casualty figures have been announced.

Wider border tensions

The incident comes amid continued security challenges along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, where infiltration attempts by militant groups and exchanges of fire have long been a concern for border security. Kurram is one of the districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa that lies along this frontier. Afghanistan is currently governed by the Afghan Taliban, and border security has repeatedly been a point of concern in relations between the two countries. A state-run broadcaster also posted the same account on social media, citing security forces. Further details on the militants involved and on any follow-up action have not been announced, and no response from Afghan authorities has been reported so far.

Aasan alfaaz mein

Kurram ke Shalozan sector mein sarhad paar se aane ki koshish ko security forces ne nakam bana diya, security sources ke mutabiq. Is dauran Afghan Taliban ki chowkiyon ko nuqsan pohanchne ki bat bhi ki gayi hai, lekin is ki tafseel abhi official taur par saamne nahi aayi. Aam shehri ke liye iska seedha matlab yeh hai ke sarhadi ilaqon mein halat abhi bhi nazuk hain aur suraksha ka masla jaari hai. Mazeed maloomat aane tak is khabar ko security sources ki maloomat ke taur par hi dekha jaye.
