No TikTok ban as PTA rejects viral nationwide notice

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority says a viral notice claiming a nationwide TikTok shutdown is false and misleading, and that it has issued no ban.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), the national telecom regulator, has said there is no TikTok ban in Pakistan today linked to a viral “nationwide ban” notice. It confirmed it has not issued any notification shutting the popular video-sharing app and described the circulating claim as false and misleading.

What the viral notice claimed

A forged-looking notification spread on social media saying the PTA had decided to ban TikTok across the country. The text cited national security and public order, and it also mentioned protecting children and young people.

The same material alleged that TikTok was being used to spread immoral, indecent, and harmful content, and that such material went against Pakistan’s culture and social values. The PTA has rejected that document and said no such decision has been announced.

What the PTA is asking the public to do

The authority urged citizens not to trust or forward unverified information about government decisions that appears only on social feeds. It said people should wait for official announcements instead of treating viral screenshots as policy.

The PTA advised the public to rely on its official website and verified social media accounts for authentic updates. The clarification is meant to stop misinformation from causing needless confusion among TikTok users in Pakistan.

Status of the app for now

For now, there is no new TikTok ban announced by the PTA. The viral notification should not be treated as an official government announcement. Anyone asking whether a TikTok ban in Pakistan is in force on the basis of that notice alone can treat the claim as denied by the regulator.

Users who see similar posts about a TikTok ban Pakistan rumour are being told the same message: check the PTA’s own channels before sharing.

Aasan alfaaz mein

PTA ne kaha hai ke TikTok par koi nayi pabandi nahi lagi. Social media par jo nationwide ban wali notice ghoom rahi thi, woh jhooti aur gumraah kun hai. App abhi ban nahi hui, is liye aam users ke liye service pehle jaisi chal sakti hai. Aisi messages forward karne se pehle PTA ki official website ya verified accounts check karein.
