At a Lahore graduation on Sunday, Ibrahim Hasan Murad — who chairs and leads UMT — said Punjab’s administration could put the campus artificial intelligence (AI) systems at learners’ disposal without a fee. He cast the free AI invitation as part of the university’s wider effort to back students who need help.

A spokesperson said Murad made the remarks while speaking during UMT’s 29th degree ceremony, which ran in several sittings. AI, in plain terms, means software that can learn patterns and support study or research work. Murad’s free AI pitch was aimed at provincial students through the Punjab government rather than a private consumer product.

Aid numbers cited at the ceremony

Murad said 64% of people studying at UMT already get money help in one form or another. He placed the ILM Scholarship Fund — the university’s pooled student-aid reserve — at Rs20 billion in total.

Under the Meritorious Scholarship Program, he cited an estimated Rs1.13 billion earmarked for 920 learners. Split evenly, that pot is about Rs1.23 million per place, though he did not publish individual grant sizes.

He also reviewed support for learners from Balochistan. Across the last ten years, he said, scholarship spending for that province’s students has totalled Rs572 million. Another Rs100 million in awards is lined up for them in the coming cycle.

Guests at the Lahore sittings

The four-part ceremony drew Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti, federal minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, Punjab education minister Rana Sikandar Hayat, and Ali Dar, an adviser to the Punjab chief minister.

Board of governors member Dr Ahmad Umar Murad, chief adviser Lt Gen (retd) Javed Hasan, rector Dr Asif Raza, and director and adviser Abid Sherwani attended with faculty, graduates and parents.

What happens next

The free AI proposal is an invitation, not a signed provincial programme: Punjab would still need to accept it and arrange how students would connect to UMT’s tools. No rollout date was announced. On aid, the sums Murad listed point to spending already counted for meritorious awards and for Balochistan students in the next round.

Aasan alfaaz mein

UMT ke sadr Ibrahim Murad ne Lahore ki 29vin convocation par kaha ke Punjab government university ki AI tools students ke liye bilkul muft use karwa sakti hai. Un ka kehna hai ke 64 percent students ko kisi na kisi tarah financial madad mil rahi hai. ILM Scholarship Fund Rs20 billion tak pahunch chuka hai. Agar ye offer qabool ho jaye to Punjab ke students campus AI se seedha faida utha sakte hain.
