Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will keep taking action against illegal Afghan residents, Governor Faisal Karim Kundi said in Peshawar, adding that the province’s Afghan policy is the same as the federal government’s.
He said anyone present without legal status would face proceedings. Those who arrive with visas, he added, would be welcome. Illegal foreigners, he argued, are not allowed to settle freely anywhere in the world.
Encroachments, bills and provincial funding
The governor said operations against encroachments would continue and that the administration would not bow to pressure. On power shortages, he said authorities would be spoken to about load shedding, but stressed that electricity is not free loot and that consumers must pay their bills.
He said technology is being brought in so that load shedding can be applied on transformers rather than across whole feeders. He credited the prime minister with providing Rs160 billion to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and said about 70 per cent of that amount would be spent in areas that remained deprived in the past.
Electricity poles standing in the middle of roads, he said, would be removed after PESCO — the regional power distribution company — is instructed to do so. On accountability, he said that if corruption charges arise, whether involving Sohail Afridi or anyone else, legal action would follow.
Health gaps, doctors and unfinished hospitals
Earlier, addressing the SPAUS 2026 urological conference, the governor called health an important sector and said advances such as robotic surgery were drawing more research into the field. He noted that people in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s merged districts still face health challenges and said the Pakistan Urological Association could play an important role.
He said the sacrifices of the medical faculty were valued, and that the province need not copy other provinces but could build a better system. Support would be provided and doctors’ problems addressed. He said salaries for 70,000 doctors were very low and that something would be done for them.
A children’s hospital, he said, has not been completed for 13 years. He said he wanted no name or plaque for himself, claimed that no hospital had been built in the province over those 13 years, and pledged full support to the doctor community so patients could get treatment locally instead of travelling to other provinces.
