US officials last year concluded that Chinese citizen Alice Huang, then a senior executive at Megaspeed International, was sharing information with the Chinese government while she worked with Nvidia to build data centres in Asia, according to people familiar with the matter.
Officials in the United States, Singapore and Taiwan have grown concerned that the data-centre industry executive — who has close ties to Nvidia Chief Executive Jensen Huang — is a Chinese intelligence source. That concern raises the possibility that Beijing gained access to information about some of the world’s most valuable artificial-intelligence chips. Nvidia (short for the US chipmaker whose processors power much of today’s AI) is central to that industry.
Who is Alice Huang?
Alice Huang, also known as Huang Le, is a Chinese citizen who was a top executive at Megaspeed International and worked with Nvidia on Asian data centres. People familiar with the matter say she is close to Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang but is not related to him.
Why it matters for AI chips
The concern centres on possible Beijing access to information about advanced AI chips through her role in the data-centre industry. Officials in the US, Singapore and Taiwan have flagged the risk that she may be a Chinese intelligence source, according to reporting on the matter.
Nvidia’s processors power much of today’s AI infrastructure, so any alleged channel of sensitive information into China sits at the centre of US export-control and chip-security debates that also shape how Pakistani firms, freelancers and cloud buyers get access to advanced GPUs.
