Gemini new features let you edit files inside the app

Google is rolling out Gemini new features that let people preview and revise generated documents, PDFs and more in chat, with PDF tools on mobile and wider format support on the web.

Google has begun shipping Gemini new features that answer a simple question for everyday users: can you fix a file the chatbot just made without exporting it first? Yes. People can now preview and edit generated files inside Gemini itself, covering documents, PDFs, presentations, spreadsheets, code and other formats.

What changed inside the chat

Google first let Gemini create files such as Google Docs, Sheets, PDFs and Markdown in April. Until this update, changing those files usually meant downloading or exporting them, then opening another app. That extra step is what the company has now removed for generated files.

Users can open a file in Gemini, expand it to full screen, and revise the content while staying in the conversation. They can also highlight a passage and ask questions about it, request edits to text or visuals, refine the draft, or keep asking follow-ups about the same file. In short, the chat becomes both the place where the file is made and where it is adjusted.

Which formats work where

Support is not identical on every device. PDF preview and editing are available on both the web and the mobile apps. Other formats—including Google Docs, Sheets, slide decks, Markdown, TXT and code files—are limited to the web version for now.

That split is practical to keep in mind if you create a spreadsheet or slide deck on a phone: you may need the web interface to edit those types in place, while a PDF can be handled on either surface under the current rollout.

How the Gemini new features are rolling out

Google says these Gemini new features are going out to all Gemini users starting today. The company also says they are available in every language supported by the app. There is no separate signup described in the announcement beyond using Gemini as the tools arrive.

For anyone who already uses Gemini to draft reports, notes or homework files, the update is mainly about staying in one flow: generate, preview, highlight, ask, and edit—especially for PDFs on phone or computer, and for a wider set of formats on the web.

Aasan alfaaz mein

Google ne Gemini mein file edit karne ka naya tariqa shuru kiya hai. Ab generated document ya PDF ko chat ke andar hi dekha aur badla ja sakta hai, bina pehle download kiye. PDF web aur mobile dono par edit ho sakti hai; Docs, Sheets aur kuch aur formats abhi sirf web par hain. Ye tools tamam Gemini users ke liye aaj se roll out ho rahe hain.
