Anthropic has removed the restrictive rolling five-hour usage window for verified Claude Ultra subscribers, so those accounts can keep using Claude through the day without stopping mid-session while waiting for a reset. The company said the change is already active for most current subscribers.
On 30 October it also renamed its two top Claude plans: Max 5x is now Max, and Max 20x is now Ultra. Anthropic said on X that Max is still $100 a month and Ultra is still $200. Existing subscribers need take no action; the new names apply automatically.
What changes for Claude Ultra usage
Previously, Claude plans used a rolling five-hour window. Once that slice of access was used up, the user had to wait for the window to reset. Verified Ultra accounts no longer carry that hourly pause. Anthropic stressed that the overall usage amount has not risen: Ultra still offers 10 times the Pro plan’s weekly usage.
Fable, Anthropic’s top model, sits under a separate weekly limit, according to the Claude Help Center. Anyone who burns through that weekly allowance in only a couple of days must wait for the weekly reset before Fable access returns.
How Ultra verification works
Subscribers do not fill out forms. Anthropic verifies Ultra accounts automatically from account and payment history, a step aimed at reducing fraud. New accounts keep a temporary limit until that check completes. Phone verification at checkout is a separate step and, the help page says, does not clear this temporary limit.
To see whether an Ultra account is verified, open Settings, then Usage. If there is no “Current session” bar, the account is verified.
Plans, pricing and what stays the same
For many users the Pro plan at 0 a month remains enough. It includes Opus 5.5 at no extra charge. Fable is not part of Pro; Pro users can reach it only by paying with usage credits.
Both Max and Ultra include Fable for up to half the weekly limit. Since October they have also carried monthly API credits—00 for Max and 00 for Ultra. Ultra is sold only as a monthly subscription. The 00 figure is for web subscriptions; mobile app prices may differ.
