Pakistan G24 chairmanship is now under way, and Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has used the role to press for global financial reforms that treat developing economies as central to world growth rather than as an afterthought.

The Finance Division said on Sunday that Pakistan has taken the lead of the Intergovernmental Group of Twenty-Four, or G-24 — a grouping through which developing countries coordinate positions on money, debt and development. Aurangzeb framed the term around a fairer, more inclusive system that backs long-term growth.

Three priorities for the chair

According to the division, he named three aims for the Pakistan G24 chairmanship: put development at the heart of how the world shapes economic policy; give emerging economies a larger say inside multilateral bodies; and update the architecture that governs cross-border finance.

He argued that macroeconomic stability should feed investment, productivity, jobs and shared gains, so poorer and reforming states can move past constant crisis management. Global financial reforms, in his telling, must also open space for meaningful participation in institutions such as the Bretton Woods bodies — the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank, the post-war lenders that still set much of the world’s financial rulebook.

“The future of developing economies is not peripheral to the future of the global economy. It is central to it,” Aurangzeb said, pointing to their capacity for investment, innovation, entrepreneurship and growth.

Financing, debt and climate on the agenda

Beyond voice and governance, he said Pakistan’s work programme would stress development money that arrives on time and at a manageable cost; lasting answers on debt; tougher global financial safety nets; climate resilience; and larger flows of both public and private capital.

“Our task is to ensure that the immense potential of developing economies is not constrained by an international financial architecture that has yet to fully adapt to a changing world,” he said. Drawing on Islamabad’s own stabilisation and reform path, he linked financial steadiness to longer-term development goals and to enough financing and policy room for countries still adjusting their economies.

Working with partners, and building on Nigeria

Aurangzeb said Pakistan would cooperate with G-24 members in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, and with the IMF, the World Bank and other partners, to turn shared aims into practical results. He thanked Nigeria for its term as outgoing chair and said Pakistan would build on that record.

“The true measure of our collective leadership will not simply be the strength of our voice, but the difference that voice makes,” he added. For readers at home, the immediate story is diplomatic and institutional: a Pakistani minister now speaks for a wider developing-country caucus while arguing that global financial reforms should unlock finance, debt relief tools and climate support — themes that matter for fiscal space and growth, even though Sunday’s statement did not announce new loans, taxes or household subsidies.

Aasan alfaaz mein

Pakistan ne G-24 ki leadership sambhaal li hai, jahan developing countries mil kar maali masail discuss karte hain. Wazeer-e-Khazaana Aurangzeb ne kaha ke duniya ka financial system zyada fair ho, taake gareeb mulkon ki awaz aur financing behtar ho. Is se seedha petrol ya bill nahi badla, lekin yeh platform debt, climate aur development ke paise par zubaan buland karne ka mauqa deta hai. Aam logon ke liye matlab yeh hai ke Pakistan ab in baton par group ki taraf se baat karega.
