Cricket West Indies (CWI) has appointed Andre Coley as interim head coach of the West Indies women’s cricket team for their upcoming series against Pakistan. The Jamaican coach will take charge for that assignment and work with the existing support staff so that preparation continues without interruption.
Why the coaching change happened
Coley succeeds Shane Deitz, who stepped down after three years in the role. CWI said Deitz’s tenure ended on 31 October and described the exit as mutually agreed. Under Deitz, West Indies reached consecutive semi-finals at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in 2024 and 2026.
Deitz thanked the players, staff and CWI and said he looked back on a successful three years, wishing the team every success. Miles Bascombe, CWI’s director of cricket, said Deitz had taken the side to two World Cup semi-finals in a row and that this was now the standard the group held itself to. Bascombe added that Deitz had shared his plans and both sides agreed a clean handover was best for the team.
Who Andre Coley is
Coley has held several coaching roles across West Indies cricket. He was head coach of the West Indies men’s side at the 2010 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, where the team finished third. Bascombe said Coley brings experience from across the West Indies system, including last year’s Men’s A-Team engagement, and thanked him for taking the assignment so that Pakistan preparations are not disrupted.
Recent form before Pakistan
The West Indies women’s team has just come off wins against Zimbabwe in both formats, taking the ODI series 2–1 and the T20I series 3–0. That record sets the backdrop for the Pakistan series under a new interim coach.
