The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has established a 22-member National Task Force to design a comprehensive framework for HEC university rankings in Pakistan. This initiative aims to create a structured and transparent system that evaluates higher education institutions based on evidence and global standards.

According to an official announcement, the task force is responsible for reviewing and finalizing a proposed ranking model. While the framework will draw from internationally recognized methodologies, it will be tailored to reflect the specific realities and needs of the Pakistani higher education landscape.

Developing a Fair Assessment Model

The task force will examine several critical components to ensure the national ranking of Pakistani universities is fair and accurate. This includes evaluating key indicators, determining the weightage of different categories, and establishing rigorous data verification procedures.

The group will also define the scoring mechanisms and assessment methods required for a transparent process. By standardizing these requirements, the HEC (the government body regulating higher education) hopes to provide students and parents with a reliable way to compare the quality of various institutions.

Leadership and Representation

Dr. Ghulam Mustafa, who serves as the Director of the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS), has been appointed as the convenor of the task force. Muhammad Ali Baig, the Deputy Director of the HEC’s Higher Education Data Repository, will act as the secretary for the group.

The membership of the task force is diverse, featuring experts from prominent public and private sector universities. Notable institutions involved include Quaid-i-Azam University, the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Aga Khan University, the University of Karachi, and the University of the Punjab.

Provincial and National Collaboration

To ensure the new HEC university rankings in Pakistan are inclusive, the commission has included representatives from provincial higher education bodies in Sindh, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This collaborative approach is intended to build a consensus on how academic excellence should be measured across different regions.

Aasan alfaaz mein

HEC ne Pakistan ki universities ki ranking bananay ke liye ek 22-rukani team banayi hai. Yeh team faisla karay gi ke kis bunyaad par kisi university ko behtar qarar diya jaye ga. Is se talaba ko achi university chun-ne mein madad milay gi aur taleemi mayaar behtar hoga.
