Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti on Wednesday said federal and provincial institutions will work in close coordination to roll out the Youth Employment Programme, which aims to give young people across the province jobs and technical skills. He spoke in Quetta after a briefing from the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC), the federal body that oversees skills training, whose chairman Engineer Qamar-ul-Islam Raja and executive director Nadia Karim outlined the plan.
Training and job targets
Officials told the chief minister that steps are under way to open employment opportunities for 25,000 young people in Balochistan. They said 6,000 vacancies have already been advertised in various federal government departments, with more posts to be announced in phases.
Separately, NAVTTC will work with the Balochistan Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (B-TEVTA), the province’s skills body, to train 10,000 youths in different sectors. The courses are meant to match demand in national and international labour markets. The first batch of 2,000 trainees is expected to complete training by December this year, after which measures will be taken to help them find work abroad and reach overseas labour markets.
Focus on South Balochistan and market skills
Bugti said jobs and modern technical skills remain among the provincial government’s top priorities. He called the province’s youth a valuable asset and urged practical steps so their potential is used constructively. Academic degrees alone are not enough, he said; young people need vocational skills that lead to dignified work.
He directed that training follow real market needs so graduates can find lasting employment. He also stressed coordination so benefits reach deserving youth in the focused districts of South Balochistan, and called for a joint approach to link trained workers with overseas jobs. Progress, transparency and outcomes should be monitored regularly, he said.
Who attended the Quetta meeting
Secretary Labour and Manpower Balochistan Saleh Muhammad Nasar, B-TEVTA head Major (Retired) Abdul Kabir Zarkoon, and NAVTTC Balochistan Director General Hussain Bakhsh Magsi also attended.
