The Punjab Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP)—the provincial body that clears major development schemes—has approved three projects worth over Rs2.94 billion to set up Lahore technical training centers in Shahdara. The package is meant to give young people practical instruction in modern trades rather than relying only on informal shop-floor apprenticeships.
The three centres planned for Shahdara
The approved work covers a Centre of Excellence in Advanced Automotive Technologies, a Modern Woodworking Service Centre, and a Centre of Excellence for the Construction Sector. Together they form a cluster of Lahore technical training centers focused on machines and methods that go beyond what many learners pick up while assisting carpenters, masons, or auto mechanics.
Trainees are expected to practise on advanced machinery and learn contemporary woodworking and automotive techniques. The aim, as described with the approval, is to widen the skills young people can offer employers in vehicle work, timber crafts, and building trades.
Cost, this year’s budget, and fund release
The three projects have a combined estimated cost of more than Rs2.94 billion. Of that outlay, Rs566 million has been allocated in the current fiscal year’s budget. The Punjab Finance Department has also been directed to release funds so the approved schemes can move forward.
No further public breakdown of land, staffing, or opening dates was given with the approval notice. What is confirmed so far is the location in Shahdara, the three centre types, the overall cost figure, and the current-year allocation.
Jobs and income the centres are meant to support
Provincial planners present the centres as a way to improve employment and income opportunities. Equipping youth with up-to-date technical skills, they say, could help graduates earn hundreds of thousands of rupees—an ambition tied to modern workplace competence rather than only traditional on-the-job learning.
For families in and around Lahore who cannot afford long private courses, publicly backed Lahore training institutes of this kind, if built and staffed as planned, would sit closer to home in Shahdara. Delivery will still depend on fund release and later construction and enrolment steps that have not yet been detailed.
