The Punjab Education, Curriculum, Training and Assessment Authority (PECTAA) has introduced a new Smart Syllabus for Class 11 students. The PECTAA Smart Syllabus for Class 11 covers the 2026-27 academic session and the 2027 annual board examinations. The notification was issued on November 6, 2026, and the changes were approved at the authority's 13th Academics Committee meeting a day earlier.
What changed in the Class 11 syllabus
The revised syllabus falls under the Accelerated Learning Program (ALP). It removes some chapters, excludes selected topics, reduces the number of exercise questions, and updates pairing schemes and model papers. The Smart Syllabus covers English, Urdu, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science and Entrepreneurship, and Islamic Studies.
In Mathematics, the entire Unit 8, which deals with Mathematical Induction and the Binomial Theorem, has been dropped, along with selected topics from other units. Chemistry students will no longer need to prepare the chapters on Basic Separation Techniques and on Lab Safety and Practical Skills.
Where it applies and what comes next
The PECTAA smart syllabus for Class 11 will apply to all nine Punjab Boards, including Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Multan, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Dera Ghazi Khan and Bahawalpur. PECTAA has directed its IT department to upload the revised syllabus, pairing schemes and model papers to its official website for students and teachers.
Separate reports say PECTAA has also notified a revised Smart Syllabus for Class 9 students for the 2027 examinations. Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has said the authority would release the smart syllabus for Classes 9, 10, 11 and 12 on November 7, 2026, with complete details for all four classes shared that Saturday.
The wider exam policy has also changed. Punjab has postponed the planned board examinations for Class 5 and replaced them with an assessment run by PECTAA for the current academic year. Media reports say Class 5 students will sit regular board exams from next year under a phased system meant to reduce academic pressure. Class 8 exams continue under the existing system, using special e-sheets and on-screen marking.
