The federal government has opened registrations for the Prime Minister's IT Certification Reimbursement Program, which offers eligible Pakistani IT graduates and professionals up to Rs70,000 towards internationally recognised technology certifications. In practice, the scheme repays part of the cost of an approved exam after the candidate has passed it and submitted proof, rather than paying a fixed sum at sign-up. The initiative aims to build the technical skills of local professionals and improve their access to international job opportunities.

Who can apply

The Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB), which works under the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication, runs the scheme. Its candidate guidelines say applicants must be IT graduates or IT professionals, choose a certification from an internationally recognised and approved provider, and pass the relevant examination. Approved providers include Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft, Google, Cisco and Oracle.

Applicants also need valid proof of certification and of exam fee payment, along with personal, educational and identity documents. The Rs70,000 figure is the highest amount a candidate can claim, not a guaranteed payment. The final amount depends on eligible certification expenses and the programme's conditions.

How to apply

Applications are made through the Tech Destination Skills portal, the online platform for the programme. A new user creates an account, fills in a registration form, and then completes a profile covering personal, educational and professional details. Applicants also build a resume on the portal, and entries should be accurate to avoid problems during verification.

Next, candidates upload their CNIC (national identity card), academic transcripts and any other documents the portal requests. After choosing an approved certification and passing the exam, they submit the official certificate and the exam fee receipt. Payment follows only after PSEB verifies the records and approves the claim, which is the final step of the Prime Minister's IT Certification Reimbursement Program process.
