Lahore's Deputy Commissioner, Captain (R) Muhammad Ali Ijaz, has asked public schools across the city to strengthen STEM education through frequent contests and hands-on lessons. He made the call while attending a district-level event at Government Martyrs of APS Memorial Girls High School in Model Town. Students from 15 leading schools across the city presented their science projects there.

A tour of the stalls and the results

Accompanied by Assistant Commissioner Model Town Abdul Fatur Khan and CEO Education Saeed Asghar, the DC walked past the scientific stalls and praised the creativity of the female students who had built them. The displays gave him a view of the range of work being done in classrooms across the city. He then visited the school's Miyawaki forest, reviewed co-curricular activities and watched a volleyball match linked to preparations for the Chief Minister Youth Games.

In the competition, Govt Girls Higher Secondary School Ravi Road took first place, while Govt Girls High School Wahdat Road finished second.

Five directives for schools

Ijaz issued five directives. The first asks public schools to give science teaching a stronger place in their work. The others call for regular academic and science contests, more support for sports and co-curricular activity, administrative help for school buildings and green projects, and better preparation for the training side of Chief Minister Youth Games events.

Congratulating the winning schools, Ijaz said science and modern learning matter a great deal for the future. He also said the district administration stands behind efforts to prepare public school pupils with skills that can compete.

What happens next

The directives were issued at the event, and no timeline for putting them into practice has been announced. Follow-up will depend on how district education officials and school heads respond in the coming months.

Aasan alfaaz mein

Lahore ke DC Captain (R) Muhammad Ali Ijaz ne sarkari schools ko kaha hai ke science aur STEM taleem ko competitions aur practical kaam ke zariye barhaya jaye. Model Town ke ek district-level muqable mein 15 schools ke bachchon ke science projects dekhe gaye aur Ravi Road ke girls school ne pehli position li. Is ka matlab hai ke sarkari school ke bachchon ko zyada hands-on science aur sports ka mauqa mil sakta hai. Abhi tafseel nahi ke yeh kaam kab aur kaise shuru hoga.
