Four Afghan nationals arrested in Pakistan were taken into custody in Peshawar on Thursday after the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), the federal body that investigates serious federal crimes, said they had allegedly obtained Pakistani national identity cards through illegal means and tried to acquire Pakistani passports.

The FIA Peshawar Zone’s Anti-Human Trafficking Circle (AHTC), which probes trafficking and related document fraud, conducted a raid at Spin Ghar Hostel in Shaheen Town. Officers acted on information that Afghan nationals were staying there and using agents to secure Pakistani identity cards and passports unlawfully.

Who was arrested and what was found

The suspects were identified as Sadiqullah, Rahmatullah, Abdullah and Nasir, all Afghan nationals. From their possession, the FIA recovered copies of Pakistani national identity cards that bore their photographs.

According to the agency, the four could not produce valid Pakistani visas during the check. That claim forms part of the preliminary account given by investigators after the raid.

What the suspects allegedly told investigators

In early questioning, the men allegedly said they had obtained the identity cards with help from an agent named Talat, also known as Peer. The FIA has presented that disclosure as part of its preliminary investigation; it has not been tested in court.

The agency says the alleged scheme centred on using intermediaries to get Pakistani papers without lawful entitlement. Afghan nationals arrested in Pakistan on such charges often face both identity-document and immigration-related counts once a formal case is filed.

Legal action registered in Peshawar

The FIA registered case No. 208/2026 against the suspects under Sections 419, 420, 468, 471 and 109 of the Pakistan Penal Code—laws that deal with cheating by personation, cheating, forgery, using forged documents, and abetment—read with Section 14 of the Foreigners Act, 1946, which covers offences linked to foreigners’ presence and related rules.

Further investigation will determine how the cards were obtained, what role any agent played, and whether more people are involved. No court outcome has been announced.
