Lahore CTO orders FIRs over unauthorised emergency lights

Under CTO Syed Abdul Raheem Sherazi’s orders, officers in Defence Phase V and other areas will treat fake green plates and emergency lights as criminal cases, not just fines.

Lahore traffic police have started registering First Information Reports (FIRs — formal criminal cases) against motorists who fit unauthorised green number plates, blue lights or police flashers on private vehicles. For these three offences, fines are being replaced with criminal cases.

The move follows directions from Lahore Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Raheem Sherazi, who ordered strict action against unauthorised plates and emergency lights. DSP Muhammad Ashfaq is supervising the operation in Defence Phase V and other parts of the city.

What the crackdown covers

The three violations now being treated as FIR-level offences are clear: green plates that a private car is not entitled to use, blue lights, and police-style flashers fitted on civilian vehicles. Lahore traffic police say such fittings will no longer be handled only through a ticket.

Officers have also warned drivers against altering number plates, hiding a vehicle’s identity, reckless driving, dangerous zigzag moves and drifting. Cases may be registered where such behaviour puts other people’s lives at risk through serious traffic violations.

How one Defence Phase V stop escalated

The drive gained momentum after Lahore traffic police stopped a private car in Defence Phase V carrying unauthorised green plates and police flashing lights. The driver claimed to be the brother of an assistant director and allegedly tried to use that connection to influence the officers.

After CTO Sherazi’s notice, police took the driver and the vehicle to the police station. Defence B police registered a case against him under provisions that deal with deceiving law enforcement agencies.

What drivers should expect next

Enforcement is already under way in Defence Phase V and is being extended to other areas under DSP Ashfaq’s supervision. Motorists who rely on unofficial plates or emergency lights on private cars face the risk of an FIR and a police-station process, not only a roadside fine.

Anyone unsure whether their plate colour or lights are legal should treat official rules as the only safe guide. Using police-style equipment on a private vehicle is exactly what this operation is targeting.

Aasan alfaaz mein

Lahore traffic police ab private gaariyon par jali green number plates, blue lights aur police flashers par fine ki jagah FIR darj kar rahe hain. Yeh faisla CTO Syed Abdul Raheem Sherazi ke hukum par ho raha hai. Defence Phase V aur doosre ilaqon mein checking chal rahi hai. Agar aap ki gaari par aisi plates ya lights hain, to ab sirf ticket nahi, case bhi ho sakta hai.
