ANP challenges KP security claim
Awami National Party (ANP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa president Mian Iftikhar Hussain has said provincial authorities have not delivered safer streets even after governor's rule and emergency steps. In a Wednesday statement from Peshawar, he argued that residents still lack confidence in their daily security.
He linked that criticism to fresh bloodshed. Malik Anar died in a bombing in Bannu, and two others were hurt in the same attack. Separately, two people died during an anti-encroachment drive in Alloch, in Puran tehsil of Shangla district.
Violence and land drives together
Mr Hussain asked how terror could keep striking if the stated aim of the special measures was to shield the public. He said insecurity remains widespread while families bury loved ones after militant attacks.
At the same time, he said, ordinary people face pressure from drives against illegal occupation and from efforts to reclaim communal land, or shamlat. He urged officials not to harass owners whose private holdings are not illegal structures. Pushing those households, he warned, would only feed resentment.
Economy already under strain
The ANP leader framed the unrest against a weak provincial economy. He said commerce and industry have lost momentum, firms are under stress, and work is hard to find. Residents, he argued, want calm streets, steady jobs and a chance to earn—not new burdens.
He said the state's first duty is to stop militant violence, bring order back, and ease hardship through steps that work on the ground. He also sent condolences to grieving families, asked for mercy for those killed, and wished a swift recovery for the wounded.
