What the Senate heard

On Thursday, Minister of State for Law and Justice Barrister Aqeel Malik told senators that a housing check had recorded illicit add-on work at 5,691 Islamabad government residences. He was answering queries in Question Hour and said the Estate Office had forwarded the files to the Capital Development Authority (CDA)—the civic body that runs building control in the capital—for follow-up.

He pointed to Rule 19 of the Accommodation Allocation Rules, 2002, which forbids occupants from enlarging, remodelling or encroaching on allotted staff housing. Extra rooms, walls or other changes without clearance fall under that ban.

Where the cases sit

Figures shared with the house put most breaches in G-7, with 4,100 units listed. G-6 followed with 1,092, then F-6 with 372 and G-8 with 127. F-7 showed a clean slate. Malik added that the Estate Office had never cleared extra works in F-6/1, G-6/1 or G-6/4.

He said the ministry’s enforcement team had served notices and worked alongside police, yet pulling down illicit structures still depends on the CDA’s building-control capacity. An anti-encroachment drive that began in F-6/4 and nearby pockets was later paused after residents raised concerns, he told the house.

Enforcement and allotment rules

Malik said steps were applied evenly across sectors, cadres and pay grades, and that the ministry had written to the CDA several times seeking action. People seeking staff housing must swear they own no home in the capital; a false claim can cost them the allotment.

He also said more than 2,200 improper official dwellings had already been cancelled and passed to eligible federal employees drawn from the general waiting list—those still queued for lawful staff housing.

Aasan alfaaz mein

Islamabad mein 5,691 sarkari gharoun mein bina ijazat mazeed tameer milne ki baat Senate ko batayi gayi. Zyada tar mamlaat G-7 mein hain, aur case CDA ke paas bheje gaye hain. Jo log waiting list par hain un ke liye yeh is liye ahem hai ke pehle hi 2,200 se zyada galat allotments cancel ho kar unhein mil chuke hain. Agar aap ke ilaqe mein CDA ka drive shuru ho to pehle bhi public objections ki wajah se kaam ruk chuka hai.
