Higher gas output from Shawal and Shams, firmer oil and gas prices, and a lower tax rate lifted the listed producer’s first-quarter results for FY27.

Mari Energies Limited (PSX: MARI) reported a 39 percent year-on-year rise in profit to Rs21.8 billion for the first quarter of fiscal year 2027 (1QFY27). The company linked the gain to higher gas production and firmer oil and gas prices, with earnings per share (EPS) at Rs18.13 against Rs13.03 in the same period a year earlier.

Sales, margins and tax

Net sales in 1QFY27 increased 24 percent year-on-year to Rs56.2 billion. Gross profit rose 23 percent to Rs31.5 billion, while profit before tax (PBT) grew 22 percent to Rs28.1 billion. Mari Energies continued to book a lower effective tax rate (ETR)—the share of profit paid as tax—of 23 percent in 1QFY27, compared with 32 percent in 1QFY26.

Exploration costs fell 7 percent year-on-year to Rs2 billion. The company indicated that lower prospecting spend, mainly linked to Ghazij, Shawal and Spinwam, and the absence of a dry well booked in the quarter, likely explained the decline.

Where production rose and fell

Operationally, gas output remained strong. Shawal field production increased 35-fold year-on-year, Mari HRL rose 1 percent year-on-year, and the Shams field added 21 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) of incremental gas. Those gains were partly offset by a 3 percent year-on-year drop at Grou-B and a 37 percent year-on-year fall at Shewa, which the company tied to disruptions from an SNGPL (Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited) pipeline rupture.

Balance sheet snapshot

Trade debt—amounts owed to the company—stood at Rs89.3 billion, up from Rs85.9 billion in 1QFY26 and Rs86 billion in 4QFY26. Cash declined to Rs45 billion in 1QFY27 from Rs59 billion in 4QFY26. Dividend yield figures cited for the stock were 4.3 percent for FY27 and 6.2 percent for FY28.

Aasan alfaaz mein

Mari Energies ki pehli quarter ki munafa 39 percent barh kar Rs21.8 billion ho gaya hai. Company ke sales bhi 24 percent zyada hue, kyunki zyada gas nikli aur oil-gas ke rates behtar rahe. Shewa field ki production pipeline tootne ki wajah se kam hui, lekin Shawal aur Shams ne ye kami kuch had tak poori ki. Ordinary logon ke liye seedha fayda tab hoga jab zyada gas supply market mein stably maujood rahe; abhi yeh company ke hisaab-kitab ki khabar hai.
