A citizen dies in police custody after an alleged assault at Gangu check post in the Taxila police area of Rawalpindi, and a murder case has now been registered against three officers. The FIR, lodged by the deceased’s younger brother Zahid Khan, names Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Kashif and constables Sohail and Qadeer under Sections 302/34—provisions used for murder and acts done with a shared intention.

Police authorities said the officers named in the complaint have been booked and that an investigation has started. The family’s account, set out in the complaint, is the basis of the case as filed so far.

How the stop at Gangu check post unfolded

According to Zahid Khan, his brother Akmal Ali Khan had gone out to fill CNG in his vehicle when Taxila station staff stopped him at Gangu check post. Akmal then phoned Farrukh Amir Khan, a resident of Dargahi, to say officers had held him there. Farrukh Amir Khan and Mukhtiar Khan went to the post with the complainant.

Zahid said that when the three arrived, they found Akmal on the floor inside a room at the check post, being beaten and pleading for mercy. He said they begged the officers to stop, but the assault continued. On the complainant’s account, ASI Kashif told constables Sohail and Qadeer to hit him, after which all three struck Akmal with kicks and fists.

Hospital declaration and the FIR

The family then put Akmal in a vehicle and took him to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Taxila. Zahid said a doctor who examined him told them he was already dead. In the complaint, Zahid alleged that ASI Kashif and the two constables had exceeded their authority and killed his brother intentionally, and he asked for legal action and justice.

He also said police had taken the vehicle’s documents and demanded those papers be returned, along with the strongest possible punishment for the accused. The Rawalpindi police case now rests on that FIR and the inquiry police say they have opened.

What officials say next

Beyond confirming that a case has been registered against the named personnel and that investigation is under way, further official findings—such as medical or forensic conclusions—have not been set out in the material available for this report. When a citizen dies in police custody, the registered murder allegations and the progress of that probe will determine what charges are pressed in court.

Families following similar complaints often look first for a clear FIR, named accused, and an active investigation file; those steps have been described here by the complainant and by police authorities.
