The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Elementary and Secondary Education Department has ordered the immediate relocation of students from unsafe school buildings in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, directing that pupils leave dilapidated and dangerous structures and their hazardous sections for safer places.

In a letter sent to all District Education Officers, the department said children studying in those buildings must be moved at once into secure classrooms. The aim, it stressed, is to protect students while keeping classes running with as little interruption as possible.

Where students will study next

Under the instructions, students should first be placed in safe parts of the same school. If that is not possible, they may be sent to nearby government schools. Where no government school space is available, rented buildings may be arranged so that teaching can continue.

Officials were told that only the unsafe portions and rooms of buildings already declared dangerous must be emptied and sealed. Full campuses need not be abandoned if other sections remain fit for use. That distinction matters for parents wondering whether an entire school will shut or only some rooms will close.

How the buildings were flagged

The letter said dangerous school buildings and their unsafe sections had been identified by the Communication and Works Department and by technical experts. District Education Officers have been told to act without delay, put alternative arrangements in place, and make student safety the priority.

These school safety measures in KP focus on rooms already judged unfit, rather than announcing a fresh province-wide inspection drive in the letter itself. Families should expect local officers to decide classroom moves school by school, based on the buildings already marked as hazardous.

What parents and schools should expect

For many households, the change may mean a different classroom on the same campus, or a short move to another government school nearby. In some areas, temporary rented premises could host lessons until safer permanent space is ready. The department’s message is that education should not stop while unsafe school buildings in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are taken out of use for teaching.

District officers remain responsible for carrying out the order on the ground and for ensuring that sealed rooms stay closed to students.
