Lahore Police have arrested 65 suspects and registered 37 cases for breaking environmental laws and anti-smog standard operating procedures, or SOPs — the day-to-day rules meant to cut winter air pollution — in a crackdown on Thursday that enforces smog rules in Lahore.
A police spokesperson said the drive is continuing. Fifteen of the new cases were lodged against factories and vehicles blamed for adding to air pollution. Eight cases were filed against barbecue outlets and brick kiln owners for breaching environmental regulations. Another 14 cases targeted other sources of environmental pollution, the spokesperson said.
How the crackdown is being framed
Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Bilal Siddique Kamyana said action against people who break environmental laws is being taken without discrimination. He said Lahore Police are working with relevant departments to fight smog, and he directed traffic police to keep taking firm steps against smoke-emitting vehicles so that dirty exhaust contributes less to the city’s air problem.
The CCPO also asked residents to follow anti-smog regulations and help protect the environment. In practical terms, that means businesses and drivers named in these categories — industry, traffic, food outlets that grill outdoors, and kiln operators — face police cases if they ignore the rules now being enforced.
What the case numbers show
Of the 37 cases, the largest named group in the police account is factories and vehicles (15). Barbecue outlets and brick kiln owners account for eight. The remaining 14 sit under a broader heading of other pollution sources. Officials have not published a full list of each site or vehicle in the material available for this report.
Taken together, the figures point to a multi-front enforcement push rather than a single industry alone. Smoke from traffic, industrial activity, open grilling and kiln burning are all under scrutiny as Lahore deals with seasonal smog pressure.
What officials say comes next
Police say coordination with other departments will continue, and traffic checks on visibly smoking vehicles remain a priority under the same environment rules Lahore residents are being asked to respect. Citizens have been urged to comply so that enforcement is not the only line of defence.
No separate figures for fines, court outcomes or city-wide air readings were given alongside the arrest and case totals.
