Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says talks with Qatari mediators have produced a shorter timetable for Tehran’s plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, bringing the implementation period down to two days.

Speaking in an interview, he said Qatar had first suggested five days for putting the Iranian proposal into effect. The sides have now reached a proposal that shortens that window to two days. The Strait of Hormuz is a vital waterway for oil and other shipping between the Persian Gulf and wider markets, so any change in how it is managed matters for energy supply and prices in countries such as Pakistan.

Conditions Tehran is setting

Araghchi listed several demands tied to reopening the waterway. He said Iran wants sanctions imposed after the Islamabad memorandum lifted, and wants US forces in the region reduced. He also called for the restoration of oil waivers and the release of all Iranian frozen funds, including money held in Qatar.

He further said Tehran seeks recognition of shipping routes that Iran and Oman have discussed in the Strait of Hormuz, and the closure of other routes. In plain terms, Iran wants only agreed lanes used for passage, under rules it has outlined with Oman.

Link to talks with Washington

Araghchi stressed that reopening the Strait of Hormuz on Iran’s terms would clear the path for renewed negotiations with Washington on outstanding issues. He framed the Hormuz step as conditional: the waterway would reopen under those requirements, and that, in his view, would allow wider diplomacy with the United States to resume.

The remarks point to a diplomatic track involving Qatar as mediator, Iranian demands on sanctions and military presence, and a sharply shortened operational timetable of two days once any deal is ready to implement. No independent confirmation of a completed agreement with Washington was given in his comments; he described a proposal and conditions, not a signed settlement.

Aasan alfaaz mein

Iran ke foreign minister ne kaha hai ke Hormuz ki raah kholne ka plan ab do din mein apply ho sakta hai. Pehle Qatar ne paanch din ki baat ki thi, ab proposal do din ka hai. Iran sanctions hataane, Amriki fauj kam karwane aur apne jaame hue paise wapas chahta hai. Agar yeh shartein puri hui to oil ki raahain khulne aur baad mein Amrika se baat cheet shuru hone ka raasta bhi nikal sakta hai.
