Pakistan's telecom watchdog, the PTA (Pakistan Telecommunication Authority), has finished Bigo Live Pakistan registration and also enrolled the short-video product Likee. Both services now appear on the regulator's books through Bigo Service Pakistan (Pvt.) Ltd., the domestic company that operates them, according to a Wednesday PTA statement.

Rules that govern the listing

The PTA tied the paperwork to the Removal and Blocking of Unlawful Online Content (Procedure, Oversight and Safeguards) Rules, 2021. In plain terms, those rules are the playbook that forces large social firms active in Pakistan to enroll with the authority. Bigo Live Pakistan registration therefore sits inside that compliance system rather than outside it.

Closer work on moderation

PTA said it hopes to deepen its partnership with BIGO so post checks get better, people treat the platforms more carefully, and local statutes remain respected. The regulator cast the enrollment as a helpful moment in talks with big social apps and in protecting Pakistani users online.

Prior certificates and day-to-day effect

Bigo Service Pakistan ranked among the earliest firms to enroll under those 2021 rules. In January 2022 the company already secured certificates for Bigo Live, Likee and Snack Video. The latest step restores a clear line between the PTA and the two apps.

Everyday users gain a documented path to lodge complaints with the PTA and to seek removal of material that breaches Pakistani law. Comparable platforms face the same kind of pressure; TikTok has scrubbed more than 23 million Pakistan-linked videos for breaking its own standards.

Timeline: what has happened so far

  • January 2022: Bigo Service Pakistan secured PTA certificates for Bigo Live, Likee and Snack Video under the 2021 rules.
  • Wednesday: The PTA said Bigo Live and Likee are formally enrolled under Bigo Service Pakistan (Pvt.) Ltd.

Aasan alfaaz mein

PTA ne Bigo Live aur Likee ko Pakistan mein rasmi tor par register kar liya hai. Dono apps ab Bigo Service Pakistan (Pvt.) Ltd. ke under hain. Galat ya qanoon ke khilaf content par ab PTA ke paas shikayat ki ja sakti hai. Aam users ke liye apps maujood rehti hain, lekin rules ki pasdari zaroori hai.
