What the new rules require
Wireless equipment rules in Pakistan now oblige manufacturers and importers to ensure radio, radar, tracking, and related wireless gear meets government-approved technical standards before it can be supplied. The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication introduced the requirements through the Telecommunication Equipment Standards Regulations, 2024.
Officials intend the framework to confirm that devices used in communication systems—including aviation and emergency services—meet prescribed technical standards, while giving the Authority clearer powers to check compliance.
Which devices are covered
The regulations apply to a wide set of products. That list includes Very High Frequency (VHF) and Ultra High Frequency (UHF) radio devices; radar systems that detect objects and follow their movement; tracking and tracing devices; amateur radio and auxiliary radio equipment; ground and airborne model control equipment; and other wireless communication devices and terrestrial telecommunication equipment.
The rules also set technical requirements for radar systems that operate across different frequency bands, so radar tracking device regulations sit inside the same standards package as everyday radio gear.
Paperwork, inspections, and records
Anyone seeking a Certificate of Conformity (CoC)—official proof that a product matches the required standards—must file supporting documents. Those papers include declarations confirming compliance, test reports from accredited laboratories, bills of lading or air waybills, technical documents and product information, and any further material the Authority asks for.
Authorised government officers may inspect or survey telecommunication equipment to verify standards, with or without prior notice. Importers, manufacturers, and licence holders must keep updated equipment records for at least three years and hand them to the Authority when requested.
For firms importing wireless devices into Pakistan, the practical change is procedural: products cannot simply enter the market on commercial paperwork alone. Radio equipment standards in Pakistan now sit upstream of supply, tied to lab evidence and ongoing record-keeping rather than a one-time declaration.
Aasan alfaaz mein
Pakistan mein wireless aur radio ke machines ab sarkari technical standards par poora utarna zaroori hai. Import aur manufacture karne walon ko Certificate of Conformity ke liye lab tests aur documents dena honge. Hukoomat baghair notice ke bhi check kar sakti hai, aur records kam az kam teen saal rakhne honge. Aam khareedar ke liye seedha faida yeh hai ke communication, aviation aur emergency ke devices zyada regulated honge.
