Nothing is preparing to launch its first AI-native device in December 2026, CEO Carl Pei has confirmed. In this context, AI-native means a product designed around artificial intelligence from the start, rather than an existing gadget with AI added later. Pei has not yet revealed the device's name, specifications or exact purpose, and no release date has been announced.
Pei shared the news in an article posted on X on November 4, 2026. The announcement follows Nothing's September 2025 plans to introduce its first AI-native products in 2026. The December timing fits that earlier plan.
What Pei has said about the device
According to Pei, the product will be a dedicated AI-powered tool rather than another app on a smartphone. It will not have a new screen, and its functions need dedicated hardware, which he said could not have been built as an app. He described the product as being developed with the same design approach and attention to detail as Nothing's existing devices.
The company also shared a teaser image showing part of a dark device with rounded corners and curved edges. The image does not show the device's size, design or intended use, so it offers only limited clues. Pei added that Nothing designs both hardware and software in-house, which he said puts the company in a strong position to build such products.
Speculation about a recording device
Pei's article pointed to a gap in current AI tools. Assistants often lack information about a user's daily activities and conversations. He gave the example of people writing down ideas during meetings because their AI assistants cannot access what was said. He suggested future AI products could capture useful information without interrupting the user.
This has led to speculation that the device could be an AI recording or note-taking product. Nothing has not confirmed this, and it has not said whether the device will record conversations or act as an AI assistant. Nothing has also been linked to other AI wearables. Recent reports suggest the company is developing two kinds of smart glasses, one with cameras and one without. It remains unclear whether either is connected to the December product.
