San Francisco-based AI inference startup Fal has raised $1.3 billion in a funding round that values the company at $16 billion — twice the $8 billion mark it reached in April. Bessemer Venture Partners led the Series F deal, which closed in October, with Nvidia, T. Rowe Price, Sound Ventures and HOF Capital also taking part. Bessemer partner Talia Goldberg is joining Fal’s board.
Fal said it announced its Series E and F together. Across both rounds the company raised a combined $1.65 billion. Sequoia Capital led the earlier $350 million Series E in April, when Fal was valued at $8 billion. The five-year-old firm was co-founded in 2021 by Burkay Gur, a former Coinbase machine-learning lead and Oracle engineer, and Gorkem Yurtseven, previously a developer at Amazon.
What Fal does, and why money is pouring in
Inference is the step after an AI model has already been trained: it means running that model to produce real outputs — an image, a video clip or audio — each time a user asks for one. Fal hosts and runs image, video and audio models so developers and creators can plug into its service instead of buying and maintaining costly graphics processors (GPUs) themselves. Demand has been especially strong from customers that rely on open-source models.
The company said it surpassed $800 million in annualized revenue earlier this year. Growth then hit a wall. “We hit a point in summer where we were not able to serve our customers and had to rate-limit them,” co-founder and chief executive Burkay Gur said. Fal plans to put the new capital into more computing power, expand its 185-person workforce, and continue fine-tuning video models with the firms that build them.
A crowded, capital-heavy market
Other inference specialists have also raised large rounds. Modal raised $750 million at a $15.75 billion valuation in October. Fireworks secured $1.5 billion at $17.5 billion in July. Baseten is reportedly on track to double its value to $30 billion. People familiar with these businesses say gross margins stay thin because buying or leasing compute remains expensive — the same pressure that pushed Fal to raise so much after its summer capacity crunch.

Aasan alfaaz mein
Fal naam ki AI company ne $1.3 billion ka naya investment le liya hai, aur ab uski qeemat $16 billion batayi ja rahi hai. Yeh company trained AI models chalati hai — yani pictures, videos aur audio banane ka kaam. Garmi mein demand itni barh gayi thi ke servers kam par gaye aur customers ko limit karna para. Ab yeh paisa zyada computers aur team barhane par lagega, taake AI tools pe kaam karne walon ko service milti rahe.
