Nexus Mods AI policy requires disclosure on new mods

Under the Nexus Mods AI policy, authors must declare AI use, explain AI-assisted work in public, and bring older mods into line before enforcement starts on January 2.

Nexus Mods AI policy changes now require authors to disclose whether artificial intelligence was used when they upload new mods. Site owner Victor "Foledinho" Folmann said the move answers a consistent concern that AI involvement in a mod has not always been clearly shown to players browsing the PC gaming mods repository.

What authors must declare

For every new upload, creators must state whether AI has been used in their work. Mods already marked as AI-assisted will also need a public explanation of how and where AI was used. Existing tags for AI-generated and AI-assisted content will stay, but Folmann said the platform aims to make that information easier to find, with AI labels becoming more prominent on mod pages.

The Nexus Mods AI policy stops short of an outright ban on AI-generated mods. Folmann described the site as "pro-human creativity" while arguing that AI already appears across many creation steps, from script autocompletion to textures, voices, and full assets. In his view, a hard ban would not remove AI from modding; it would mainly stop people from saying they used it. Clear labelling and platform rules, he said, are the preferred path.

Reuse, discovery, and hiding AI mods

Folmann also said Nexus Mods will not use mods to train AI and will not sell or license them to anyone doing so. The platform is working on clearer controls over how mods may be reused by others and on stronger attribution when one author’s work is used in another mod with the right permissions.

Separately, the Recently Added section is being adjusted because some authors upload many mods at once and push others down the list. Folmann linked the pattern partly to faster mod production. Planned steps include limits on how many mods from one author appear at a time and tighter restrictions on uploads from new accounts. The site is also launching controls to hide AI-generated content on game pages and the homepage, with search filters described as next.

Deadline for existing mods

Authors have 60 days to update existing mods so they meet the new requirements. That grace period ends on January 2. After that date, the site says it will begin enforcing the rules.

Aasan alfaaz mein

Nexus Mods ab naye mods upload karte waqt AI ka istamaal bataana lazmi kar raha hai. Jo mods AI se madad le kar bane hon, un mein yeh bhi likhna hoga ke AI kahan aur kaise use hui. Purane mods update karne ki 60 din ki mohlat January 2 ko khatam hoti hai. Players baad mein AI wale content ko hide bhi kar sakenge.
