Artificial intelligence startup TypeSafe AI has raised $870 million in a fresh funding round that values the firm at $7.5 billion, driven by surging corporate interest in its non-text model Jev. The financing was led by venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, with participation from Sequoia and existing backer DCVC.

The investment comes shortly after Jev went viral following its release on September 15. The company stated that one-third of Fortune 500 enterprises are already deploying the model across their operations, reflecting an unusually swift enterprise adoption cycle.

How the model works

While Jev is built on a transformer architecture, it departs fundamentally from standard large language models (LLMs). Instead of generating written sentences or computer code, the system produces probabilities that the company describes as "calibrated decisions."

TypeSafe claims this approach operates significantly faster and requires far fewer tokens than traditional text-generating models. According to the company, this structure makes the software far more effective for backend task execution rather than conversational interfaces.

Shifting focus to automation

Company leadership argues that natural language systems face limitations when interacting directly with enterprise software. "We have been super good at human language for four years, but it’s not useful for automation because computers speak a different language," co-founder Diogo Almeida said.

TypeSafe was established in 2024 by Almeida, a former researcher at OpenAI, alongside Sasha Sheng, a former research engineer at Meta, and engineer and entrepreneur Erik Gafni.
