Auto financing in Pakistan rose to Rs407.12 billion by the end of September 2026, according to the latest figures released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the country’s central bank. The stock of automobile loans was 3.49% higher than the Rs393.4 billion recorded in August 2026. Compared with September a year earlier, when financing stood at Rs304.71 billion, the year-on-year increase was 33.61%.
The central bank’s consumer-credit snapshot covers outstanding balances rather than new approvals alone. In plain terms, banks and other lenders together had more car loans on their books at the close of September than in the previous month or the same month last year.
How September compares with recent months
Month to month, the Rs407.12 billion September figure is about Rs13.7 billion above August’s Rs393.4 billion. On a yearly view, outstanding car financing was roughly Rs102 billion higher than the Rs304.71 billion reported for the same period last year. Those gaps show how quickly the auto-loan book has rebuilt relative to both the prior month and the year-ago level.
The same SBP release put financing for house building at Rs365.44 billion by end-September 2026, up 71.88% year on year. Against August’s Rs315.78 billion, housing-related consumer loans were 15.73% higher. Financing for personal use stood at Rs300.54 billion, rising 14.28% from a year earlier and 1.3% from the previous month.
Wider consumer and private credit
Taken together, overall credit disbursed to consumers reached Rs1.29 trillion, a 34.45% year-on-year rise. Versus Rs1.23 trillion in August, consumer financing was up 4.86% month on month. Auto financing in Pakistan was one part of that broader rebound in household borrowing.
Outstanding credit to the private sector rose 16.64% year on year to Rs11.28 trillion in September 2026. Sequentially, private-sector loans increased 3.36% from Rs10.92 trillion in August. Within that total, manufacturing-sector loans were Rs5.89 trillion, up 12.25% year on year and 2.93% month on month. Construction borrowing stood at Rs227.44 billion, higher by 6.46% year on year and 2.3% month on month. Loans to agriculture, forestry and fishing reached Rs709 billion, up 30.93% from a year earlier and 3.07% from the prior month.
