Ralphie Albert, the Surrey allrounder, has been named captain of an 18-player England Under-19 squad for a December tour of Pakistan that will play a Youth ODI and Test series in Rawalpindi. Nottinghamshire’s Farhan Ahmed is vice-captain.
The assignment covers three Youth one-day internationals and one Youth Test, all in Rawalpindi. Before those fixtures, the squad will spend 12 days at a training camp in Colombo, Sri Lanka, from 19 to 30 November.
Coach and support staff
Neil Killeen, the former Durham seamer, will oversee the group on an interim basis as Young Lions head coach for the winter programme. That programme also includes a trip to Australia in the new year. He has stepped into the role after Mike Yardy’s appointment as Elite National Batting Lead.
Killeen will be supported by Joe Denly, Steve Mullaney and Kyle Hogg. He said he was looking forward to leading “an exciting group of young players and coaches across their winter programme,” and described Sri Lanka as “an excellent venue” to prepare for what he called a “tough contest in Pakistan” after England’s series in the summer.
Squad and who joins when
The full England Under-19 men’s squad named is: Ralphie Albert (captain), Farhan Ahmed, Subhaan Ali, Robbie Bowman, Tom Bradley, Thomas Edwards, Luke Hands, Theo Lamey, Manny Lumsden, Bertie Michael, Isaac Mohammad, Joe Moores, Jack Nelson, Leo Selvey-Clinton, Marley Simpson, Luke Symington, Charlie Taylor and Jeet Varaich.
Among uncapped players is Worcestershire left-arm seamer Jeet Varaich, who has received his first Young Lions call-up. Marley Simpson and Luke Symington will join only for the Sri Lanka camp. Charlie Taylor and Manny Lumsden will meet the squad in Rawalpindi and will be managed on individual programmes aimed at developing fast bowlers.
Fans tracking the series should note that all Pakistan fixtures are listed for Rawalpindi, with the one-dayers clustered early in December and the Test later that month.
