Fresh names as the venue shifts
The Pakistan Cricket Board has reshaped the Pakistan tri-series squad for the men's One-day International contest featuring England and Sri Lanka. Wrist-spin option Sufiyan Moqim leaves the travelling party on Sunday, while 21-year-old left-hand batter Maaz Sadaqat steps in to stand by for teammates nursing light soreness.
In a short note, officials tied Moqim's departure to how strips in Lahore tend to behave and said he will resume work on the domestic circuit. Maaz, who missed the original travelling list, now adds batting depth under captain Shaheen Shah Afridi as the campaign continues in Punjab's capital.
Why the spinner leaves and the batter arrives
After three fixtures in Rawalpindi, play relocates to Gaddafi Stadium. Those earlier tracks leaned toward seam bowling, which left little room for specialist slow bowling. That backdrop frames the choice to free Moqim from the Pakistan tri-series squad once the itinerary reaches Lahore.
Maaz's brief is insurance with the bat rather than a declared first-choice switch. Born in Peshawar, he also offers part-time left-arm finger spin. He made a lively first ODI appearance versus Bangladesh earlier this year and, in recent T20Is against Sri Lanka, stacked successive fifties — among them a 96 in 51 deliveries that helped Pakistan set their best home T20I score.
Moqim, who comes from Azad Kashmir, has featured in Pakistan's white-ball sides since his T20I entry in 2023. He is remembered for a five-wicket haul for three runs versus Zimbabwe in a T20I and for claiming the top individual award across the 2026 Pakistan Super League while with Peshawar Zalmi. In 50-over internationals he has eight dismissals from four games.
League picture ahead of Lahore
Pakistan already hold wins by 37 runs over Sri Lanka and by 87 runs over England. Another meeting with England is due in Lahore on Sunday as the Pakistan tri-series squad settles into the tournament's second venue, with a final fixed for 31 October at the same ground.
Timeline: what has happened so far
- Rawalpindi opening leg: three matches played; seam-friendly tracks limited specialist spin.
- League results so far: Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by 37 runs and England by 87 runs.
- Sunday: PCB stood down Sufiyan Moqim and added Maaz Sadaqat; Pakistan meet England again in Lahore.
- 31 October: final scheduled at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
Aasan alfaaz mein
PCB ne Sufiyan Moqim ko ODI tri-series se nikal diya hai kyun ke Lahore ki pitches un ke spin ke liye suitable nahi samjhi gain. Un ki jagah Maaz Sadaqat ko cover ke tor par shamil kiya gaya hai, taake halki chot wale players ki backup ho. Pakistan pehle do league matches jeet chuka hai aur ab Lahore mein England se dubara khelega. Final 31 October ko Gaddafi Stadium par hoga.
