Four SAU researchers make a global science ranking

Four SAU researchers at Sindh Agriculture University in Tandojam have been placed on the Stanford–Elsevier compilation of the world’s top 2% scientists. The listing underlines work from the campus in farming and related fields.

Shields were handed over at a Wednesday event in the Senate Hall. Vice Chancellor Engr Prof Dr Altaf Ali Siyal led the occasion and pressed staff to pursue studies that meet community needs and produce clear public gains.

Who made the list

The scholars named are Dr Asghar Ali Kamboh (Veterinary Microbiology), Dr Liaquat Ali Lund (Basic and Agribusiness Management at Khairpur College of Agriculture and Management Sciences), Engr Dr Imran Ali Lakhiar (Irrigation and Drainage), and Dr Fazal Nabi Shar (Poultry Science).

They spoke about their own lines of inquiry during the gathering. Dr Ghulam Hussain Wagan, who directs University Advancement and Financial Assistance, outlined how each person reached the global ranking.

What the vice chancellor asked for

Dr Altaf Siyal argued that postgraduate work should not stop at credentials. Master’s and PhD projects, he said, ought to answer public problems and keep pace with shifting economic, social and climate pressures.

He told faculty to publish in strong journals so the university’s standing abroad grows and more of its scientists appear on such lists. He also noted that studies designed abroad or by donors can miss lasting help for local people, because priorities often reflect other countries’ settings. Scholars based in Sindh, he said, are better placed to craft fixes suited to the province.

He pointed to farming, poultry, livestock, agribusiness, information technology and other agriculture-linked areas as open for deeper work, and asked researchers to take up neglected questions that serve growers, industry and the wider public. Dr Muhammad Ismail Kumbhar likewise spoke on building a stronger culture of inquiry and innovation on campus.

Extra recognition on the day

Separately, Dr Habibullah Magsi of Agricultural Economics received a shield for his teaching and scholarly record. He has previously won the Higher Education Commission’s Best Teacher Award in Islamabad.
