The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA)—the provincial body that runs Safe City emergency and surveillance services—has begun installing a PSCA panic button system based on QR codes in government hospitals across Punjab, including Lahore. The project is meant to give patients and attendants faster digital access to Safe City help when a medical emergency leaves little time to spare.

How the hospital QR system works

Under the plan, emergency QR panic buttons will be placed in government hospitals in phases. A citizen scans the code on a phone and is connected to the Punjab Safe Cities Authority. The hospital’s details then appear on the device so the user can register a contact number and ask for help through a call to Emergency Helpline 15, live chat or a video call.

PSCA says the setup is designed for quick, technology-based access to Safe City emergency services, especially when timely support can matter most. The same channel is not limited to blood needs; people will also be able to seek Safe City assistance in other emergency situations through one digital platform.

Link to the Virtual Blood Bank

A central feature of the hospital panic button system is its link with the Safe City Virtual Blood Bank. When someone needs blood urgently, the Safe City team can help connect the patient or attendants with available donors of the required blood group, aiming to make donor searches faster and easier.

Separately, citizens can still call Emergency Helpline 15 and press option 4 for guidance on blood requirements and basic first-aid assistance. That route sits alongside the new QR pathway rather than replacing it.

What PSCA says comes next

According to the PSCA, putting QR emergency panic buttons in government hospitals is a milestone in using modern tools to improve public services and emergency response. The authority says the step should give patients and families a clearer way to ask for timely help in critical moments, and that it remains focused on expanding technology-driven safety and facilitation services across Punjab.

No date has been given for when every government hospital will be covered, only that work is under way in phases. Officials have not published installation counts for Lahore or other cities in the material available for this report.
